Gay Men Should Be Allowed To Donate Blood :: essays research papers
ââ¬Å"A man who has engaged in sexual relations with another man inside the most recent five years, regardless of whether oral or butt-centric sex, with or without a condom or other type of assurance, isn't allowed to give blood and should please not do so.â⬠This was the announcement given last Thursday by a representative from the South African National Blood Service (SANBS). This announcement had caused a gigantic question between the SANBS and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance (GLA) Each paper has title text after title text about this new subject, each news update on every radio broadcast, each news program on the TV, everyone is discussing this most recent disturbance in our some-what quiet lives. The GLA states that on Friday, the day after the announcement was made, they given gay blood, a few papers guarantee that 120 units were given, another says more than 600 units were given, all the accounts are extremely clashing, which one, assuming any, would we say we are to accept? An unavoidable issue everybody is inquiring as to whether they donated gay blood, for what reason did they in the event that they were unmistakably asked not to, and when they did, it implies they lied on the structures about their sexual exercises. What great is this going to do anybody one may ask, however on the off chance that you were in that circumstance, okay not take care of business to? In the event that they unexpectedly concluded that any white female is taboo to give blood, regardless of what your HIV status is, okay not fight back and cause a dissident? This makes us think, (for once), what the gay men did wasn't right by giving their blood, yet we can't point fingers and judge them in the event that we would have done likewise. What the SANBS is absolutely off-base, separation of any sort is illegal but then they are obtrusively doing it before the entire nation, and world. Path back when HIV and AIDS was first found, the gay men were the main ones that appeared to be contaminated with this sickness, so around then it was a sensible standard to prohibit them from giving. In any case, presently we are in 2006 and each and every sexual orientation, race, religion and gathering has been tainted with HIV so to just boycott gay men is unsatisfactory.

The holocaust was the systematic killing of over 6 million Jews by the Nazis and their partners. Although many Jews were killed, many were also able to survive the gruesome times ahead of them, such as the Brichta Family and the Grossman Family. The Bricta family consisted of Hermann Brichta, Toni Brichta, Franz Brichta, and their close relative Fritz Wasservogel. Hermann Brichta was born on a farm in 1897 surrounded by neighboring Czechs. Hermann was an active participant in WWI and was discharged from the army in 1921. He was aware of his Jewish ancestry, but thought of it as a nationality, not a religion. Toni Bricta and Fritz Wasservogel were both born on June 26 1892 in Berlin. When they were the age of 10, their father died so there were sent to separate orphanages, Toni became the clerk of Berlin branch of the Allianz or at the Victoria of Berlin Life offices, and Fritz joined the Dresdner Bank straight from orphanage. Cyrano Honorable Man - 995 Words
Honor in Cyrano de Bergerac The definition of honor is a keen sense of ethical conduct. As George Bernard Shaw once said, ââ¬Å"A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.â⬠Similar to the quote honor is portrayed by Cyrano De Bergerac. In Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostand, honor is a key element in the play which is shown through Cyranoââ¬â¢s deeds of honor, how it is based in society, and because Cyranoââ¬â¢s outstanding traits of honor outweigh other characters honor. Cyrano is an honorable man. To begin with, he shows his honor in many ways, but he does not do it to receive praise, he does it because of his faithful personality. For example, when Cyrano hears about the hundred menâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Come, shall we win her both together...â⬠(II 99-100). Christian could at least think of a way to tell Cyrano he appreciates all his honorable qualities. By Christian doing something that simple would have made him a more honorable man. Another character who lacks honor or dignity is Le Bret. Cyrano and Le Bret are close friends, although Cyrano never performed any wonderful deeds towards Le Bret. That does not mean he cannot be honorable towards Cyrano. Le Bret could have warned Cyrano of his death. Regardless, he was late to let Cyrano know of the accident that caused his death, he still becomes a more honorable man. Imagine how much more honorable Le Bret could have been if he were to save Cyranoââ¬â¢s life. The last character wh o is not honorable is De Guiche. He is the opposite of an honorable man. He does an abundance of deeds, but most of them are for his own good not others. Some might classify De Guiche as a selfish man. Many characters have the chance to become honorable men, but they choose not to, unlike Cyrano. Cyrano de Bergerac reveals the role of honor as a key aspect which is displayed through Cyranoââ¬â¢s acts of honor, how honor is established in society and by contrasting less honorable characters with Cyrano.Show MoreRelatedEssay on Cyrano De Bergerac is Aristotles High Minded Man752 Words à |à 4 PagesDAristote In Cyrano De Bergerac, written originally by Edmond Rostand in French and translated to English by Brian Hooker, Cyrano de Bergerac stars in an epic of his fictional life as a high minded man. Sears Case Study free essay sample
Sears is our nationââ¬â¢s fourth largest retailer. With over 4,000 stores in the United States and Canada, Sears has grown from its humble beginnings. Sears is a leader in apparel, home appliances, home, lawn and garden, tools, automotive repair, maintenance, and electronics. Sears also provides home service, serving 11 million service calls yearly. Richard Sears founded Sears as a mail order company and it grew to be one of the largest retailers. He opened the first department store in Chicago in 1925. Sears found success and by 1928 three more stores had opened. Now Sears employs 249,000 employees and it has grown quickly. In 2005, Sears merged with K-Mart and has helped both evolve and the merger proved to be both successful and positive. Although they have faced challenges along the way they have been able to gain a large market share because of their product mix, quality services, products, and solutions. No matter what difficulties they have faced Sears has been a leader in the retail industry and they will strive to be sure that doesnââ¬â¢t change. We will write a custom essay sample on Sears Case Study or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Sears has come a long way from its beginnings as a catalog. Sears has many unique attributes that make it a place that people want to shop. Despite their great accomplishment and striving to become one the largest and most competitive retailers, Sears is facing several key issues. Sears must reevaluate their internal and external environment in order to implement the changes and solutions necessary to get Sears back to where it needs to be. Company Analysis Organization and Leadership Sears has an overall good practical structure. This has definitely been key to their success because they are able to tailor their products to their customers needs using an integrated cost leadership/differentiation strategy. Sear is competing in a very competitive industry and if they follow through with their differentiated strategy they will continue to improve. Sears was able to pursue low cost and provide differentiation to their customers. Rosa Corporate Financial Position Sears financial position is currently improving. They are dealing with not only a let down on their fourth quarter losses but the sales have decreased as well in both their department stores and Kmart unit. To deal with their losses they are in the process of selling 11 stores to make up for their finances which has made their stocks go up at 19% (MarketWatch, 2012). If they sell these properties they could earn around $270 million in proceeds. It could go either way though since when sales decrease selling assets may not be the right way to bring in growth in the future. Also if they follow their plan of moving Sears Hometown and Outlet stores they could bring in between $400 million to $500 million of proceeds during the third fiscal quarter (SHLD: Nasdaq, 2012). Sears net income has dropped continually year after year from $235. M to a mere $133. 0m. One reason being is the percentage of sales has been more focused on the SGA (Sales General Administration) costs which has made it go from 23. 69% to 24. 09% (SHLD:Nasdaq GS, 2012). Core Competency The main core competency would have to be in there customer service. They offer great service to their customers which has gave them a comp etitive advantage against competitors. They use this to differentiate themselves from competition. They have built up a good customer base. They make sure they have their best associates available for customers especially through peak hours. Although, things could be a little different in terms of bargaining power from product to product, Sears has the advantage of being a top retailer and leads the way with relative bargaining power. As the number one home appliance retailer as well as a leader in tools, lawn and garden, and home electronics, Sears has established deep roots in their line of business. Sears remains honest with their customers and provides high-quality products at bargain prices. As a result of long, developed relationships with suppliers, Sears has the ability to buy in high volumes and sell for less. With this in mind, the power of suppliers is a similar story within Searsââ¬â¢ industry environment. It varies from supplier to supplier due to Searsââ¬â¢ product variety and differentiation. In the retail industry, suppliers tend to have very little power. Sears has a high standard for quality, especially in its line of household appliances, so suppliers that donââ¬â¢t meet these standards are of no interest. Additionally, Sears has been working with its suppliers for a very long time, so they have gained the right amount of bargaining power to ensure low prices and good quality products and services.

Boston beer case free essay sample
Koch blundered by not adopting a more aggressive growth strategy in the 1 9905. His overly cautious approach guaranteed that Boston Beer would never be more than a niche player in the U. S. Beer market Boston Beer Companys main growth strategy was focused by differentiation. The sources of its competitive advantage can be classified as a company that provides high quality beer with unique flavors, a market driven approach, and a very efficient contract brewing strategy. Unfortunately, by the sasss, their initial public offering of $30 went as low as to $8 per share.Since the easy of entry into the microbrewery business is low, that resulted in about 3000 new microbrewery into the market. When there became too many options available for the consumer, Jim Koch should have approached the situation and avoided the risks of the companys shares from falling, right when they saw stocks going down. He could have also approached having a more aggressive growth approach when the company went PIP. Also, they could have invested in finding the right marketing campaign like using celebrities or just advertising the beer to capture consumers attention. They really needed to create a type of quote or motto people would remember, just like Dos Squish and Coors light. Boston Beer Company has failed to that and for that reason their growth is still at a steady pace where is still not part of the big dogs yet.Since they focus so much on differentiation as their strategy, why couldnt they capture consumers attention quicker and faster? In the 1 asss, Jim Koch should have changed his company from getting into a niche market into a general market, so that today he still does not need to prove or go bar t o bar, to ask them to carry their beer. It should be a first option when someone is opening a bar to have Samuel Adams beer because the consumers love It. He failed to do so by not taking advantage in the asses and he will still have to do the same beer pitch to bars, because of his mistake.

National Information Infrastructure Essay Example
National Information Infrastructure Essay Example National Information Infrastructure Paper National Information Infrastructure Paper This paper focuses on the rapidly growing area of e-commerce, more so with the emergence of the National Information Infrastructure. Many companies are positioning themselves to gain from the efficiencies and effectiveness derived within its operations of an e-commerce environment. The paper explains transactions cost theory, its effects on the economizing on coordination cost and rapid cost performance improvement that could be conducted via the e-commerce environment. It explains how the e-commerce environment could substantially reduce profit margins, as consumers will be spoilt with choices expecting cheaper goods whilst firms will be competing for consumers thus reducing its products prices to stay competitive. Hence, the article suggests that firms would resort to marketing restriction methodology to retain its existing customers. Furthermore, the overall expansion of the e-commerce environment would have an impact on the existing supply chain management, hence emphasising the need to rethink and redefine the value/supply chain management resulting in the value/supply chain reconfiguration. As the evolving infrastructure would link the various groups, namely producers of information, producers of physical goods, electronic retailers, electronic markets, physical distribution networks and electronic channels, the article suggests that an essential market choice box would emerge as a critical technological device to link these groups. Over recent years information technology has experienced an unprecedented degree of changes, enabling the transformation of the basic mechanisms of business. This transformation is accelerating, supported by new computer based applications to facilitate business process, new systems to capture information on customers and new methods of communication, within and between organizations and their customers/suppliers. This phenomenon has resulted in the emergence of the electronic commerce age. It has led firms to rush into establishing a presence in this new virtual marketplace (Business Week, 1994). As stated by Hoffmann and Novak (1997) the Internet represents a new paradigm shift to businesses. Benjamin and Wigan (1995) state that it is becoming increasingly difficult to delineate accurately the borders of todays organization. The reported benefits to the firms deploying e-commerce include increased efficiency of order processing, reduced cost due to just-in-time inventory management, locking in of trading partners and greater ability to customize products and services based upon information arising from the transactions (Cash Konsynski, 1985; Johnson Vitale, 1988). In the euphoria of benefits, i.e. efficiencies, effectiveness and cost reductions, firms should not forget the cost of infrastructure, maintenance and resources needed for an e-commerce environment. Please refer to Appendix A Apparel Company Takes A Gamble The emergence of e-commerce has raised the prospect of radical changes to the traditional business process. This was further illustrated in 1994, when the first Internet bank, First Virtual was launched (thocp.net/timeline/1994.htm. 12/1/04). However, as in any traditional business strategy, it imperative for the organization to understand the different factors that affect consumers participation. According to Chaffey (Chapter 9, p 335 2000) the following factors should be considered in e-commerce environment: Access Major factor, as access in the e-commerce environment equates to consumer participation. However, on the worldwide basis, a relative small proportion of the population has access to the Internet, i.e. less than 10% of the population. The emergence of e-commerce will significantly impact the traditional marketing concepts and the customer relationship management, Hoffman and Novak (1996). Drafting of the e-marketing strategies should have similar elements to a traditional marketing strategy, such as those defined by McDonald (1999) and Kotler (1997) however difference in the e-environment need to be considered. In the past, the planning process has been conceived as an annual event, but as McDonald (1999) points out, this is no longer relevant in a dynamic business environment. The era of e-marketing accentuates this trend. Strategies will have to be reviewed frequently. Ultimately, however, the fundamental marketing mix (4Ps) will determine who wins in markets of the future for either electronic or brick mortar operations. For the consumers, the biggest lure to Internet shopping is convenience. Want to browse through a bookstore 24/7 without having to go outside? Companies such as Amazon.com Inc and Barnes Noble Inc ring up millions of dollars in sales each day by operating vast web sites that effectively let customers do just that. Consumers also are using the web to hunt for bargains, trade stocks at rock-bottom commission rates and gather information about purchases they will make later in the real world. For the businesses, online commerce is enticing mainly because of its intense efficiency. Once a web is built, it can take orders around the clock and field countless customers-service queries, without losing tempers or requiring coffee breaks. Product catalogs can be updated constantly, without the extra trips to the printer and up-to-the-minute data about what are selling (what isnt), discounts and offers becomes accessible with a few mouse clicks (http://interactive.wsj.com 17/12/03). The CEO of Kodak was alleged to have said, that he couldnt tell if Kodaks website makes money, however he was sure that the website is the most personal way of selling since the door to door salesmen, only now the customers were knocking on Kodaks door. In order for marketing efforts to succeed in this environment, a new business paradigm is required in which the marketing function is reconstructed to facilitate e-commerce. However, online commerce may create new problems. With customers able to gather huge amounts of data via the Internet and then go comparison-shopping, profits margins may get squeezed. This then becomes a survival situation for some companies. In addition, many of the cost savings measures are at the expense of human resources, thus creating a national employment headache for the Government. The e-commerce environment has made marketing easier however challenging as consumers demands and needs increases. Hence, it is important that firms gain important insights into customers nature and needs. This desire to establish long-term customer relationship with increasingly sophisticated demands and needs has led many firms to seek new ways of acquiring, managing and utilising customer information (Peters and Fletcher, 1995). However, with the sheer growth of the Internet, finding relevant information is becoming difficult, hence consumers might shift to traditional ways of buying. Firms have to ensure that the shift and select of information is done on their behalf. Here many firms rely on intermediary, however the concern of issues such as privacy, trust and security (Schell, 1996) are highlighted.

Assessment of a social networking company Essay
Assessment of a social networking company - Essay Example Among these sites, MySpace.com is undoubtedly the market leader. MySpace.com accounts for an impressive 47.4% of the total market share. Facebook is second on the list with the market share of around 18%. Orkut and Flickr are next in the list and they account for almost 7% of the market share, each. (MC Marketing Charts) Many experts claim that the websites operating in this industry may experience a fast growth and an eventual chill if they do not develop long-term strategies. For example, new websites can easily take away the market share of old, if they do not innovate and strategize their operations. To support their argument they give the example of Orkut. In the past, Orkut was growing at a very fast rate but it did not innovate as result new websites came and experienced a massive growth at the expense of Orkut. It is also believed that with the passage of time, as the industry matures, these sites are going to attract more and more traffic. This large turnover will encourage companies to advertise more on these websites. As a result, these websites will experience an even larger growth in their revenues. As a result, many big brands consider advertising on these sites as a better way to grab the attention of "target market" towards their products. (Nielsen) This industry, in the recent times, moved from niches to become one of the most coveted sectors. This growth has also caused creative destruction for the other mediums of marketing like radios and televisions. Earning Revenue from Advertising: The boom in social networking has blossomed opportunities for advertisers to start using these networks as a vehicle to reach their target market. For e.g. in Italy, Maserati is using social networking websites to reach out to its customers. However, if we analyze the situation, we can reach a conclusion that those advertisers who want to advertise on social networking sites have to overcome a few challenges. Though, advertising on the social networking websites is increasing, but it is still very less, compared to the number of people who use these networks. (Review) The diversified nature of the environment means that standard ads won't be able to succeed in this market, and it is imperative that different approaches should be tried to find out the mindset of people who use these networks. Since, advertising all over the world is losing credibility, it is better for these companies to advertise with a more humble and candid perspectiv

Two Men Arrested for String of Thefts from U.S. Mail Research Paper
Two Men Arrested for String of Thefts from U.S. Mail - Research Paper Example mails that occurred between January 12, 2012 and March 16, 2012 (U.S. Attorneyââ¬â¢s Office 1). These men do not work as United States postal employees, but as employees of a private mail- handling firm, which delivers air parcels to the JFK Post Office. Earlier, during the year, there were several cases of missing items reported to the postal inspectors. The postal inspectors, alongside other FBI agents, launched a thorough investigation on mail handlers, which lasted for several weeks. Their investigation revealed several instances where Wilson and Bennett occasionally moved express mail bags to private locations, where they searched the parcels and stole valuable items and other merchandizes (U.S. Attorneyââ¬â¢s Office 1). Police then issued a warrant of arrest for both men. On March 20, 2012, FBI agents arrested both men, and upon being searched, several items, whose descriptions match the missing items, were recovered at their premises. Airmail theft is one of the ways of derailing the lifeblood of the U.S. economy, and stifling personal communication (U.S. Attorneyââ¬â¢s Office 1). Airmailing is a significant means of communication between traders, through which they move goods and other items from one region to another, within a short period. When individuals and companies do not receive their mails, they lose trust in the services offered by U.S. postal corporation, which in turn, damages the companyââ¬â¢s reputation, thus reducing its market strength against its key rivals, especially from the private sector like the DHL Inc. Additionally, lost items inconvenience businesses by increasing their cost of productions, which make them register significant loses. It is, therefore, necessary to investigate and combat airmail thefts, not only in the U.S., but also in other nations. Mail theft significantly inconveniences both businesses and individuals. This is because they lose their valuable items, which are worth $1

Dilemmas in Assessment of Student Writing :: English Writing Teacher Student
Being a new teacher of English, I find the assessment of compositions to be a concept I question and struggle with on a regular basis. Having consulted several colleagues, mentors, administrators, and fellow graduate students, I have come to the conclusion that there is no easy answer to this tedious yet ever important question. While there are many inlets and outlets to this dilemma, for the sake of time I will touch on only three. While all three are very different in terms of concepts, rituals, and conducts, they all come together to one common goal - helping students express themselves in terms of writing. Subjectivity While assessment can give students, parents, and administrators a view of where a student stands in terms of achievement, one must always remember that the grade is subjective. There is no right or wrong answer in English, as there is in math or other quantitative areas of study. The basis of ââ¬Å"a gradeâ⬠depends upon a studentââ¬â¢s ability to choose a course of thought and convey it accurately and convincingly in written form. The subjectivity falls in how the teacher interprets or responds to the ideas and supporting information. For example, during my first venture as a student teacher, I was given the task of grading ââ¬Å"free choiceâ⬠essays. The students were given free range of the subject matter, and were told to write an insightful and poignant essay on the topic of their choice. After grading the papers, my mentor sat with me and we discussed some of the grades I had given for several of the studentsââ¬â¢ papers. Upon glancing briefly at the comments I had made and the grades I had given, my mentor began asking direct questions as to why I would grade certain papers one way, but would assign a different grade to others that were quite similar. As she went on to read through other papers, she would agree with some of my grades, but strongly disagree with others. I found this interesting because, while we were both reading the same essays, we were focusing on different points or concepts, which shaded our perception of the piece as a whole. In retrospect, I believe that afternoon spent rereading essays with my mentor was one of the best teaching practices that I have come across. Once in a while, teachers needed to refocus their grading instincts by, in effect, orally defending their stance on grading policies.

Civility vs. Savagery
In William Goldingââ¬â¢s novel ââ¬Å"Lord of the Flies,â⬠civility, which is associated with morality and goodness, and savagery, associated with evil and corruptness, are constantly at war. The conflict between the novelââ¬â¢s main protagonist and antagonist, Ralph and Jack, represents the broader struggle of these two ideas. Civility and savagery are further represented through recurring symbols throughout the novel. Lastly, these conflicting ideas present themselves in internal battles within the characters.Through external conflicts, symbolism, and internal struggles, the war between savagery and civility appears constantly throughout the novel. Ralph and Jackââ¬â¢s power struggle correlates with the battle between savagery and civility. From the novelââ¬â¢s beginning, Ralphââ¬â¢s main priority is to maintain the fire so the boys can be rescued. He says, ââ¬Å"If a ship comes near the island they may not notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountai n. We must make a fireâ⬠(38). Ralphââ¬â¢s leadership and desire to return to society represent civility. However, as the boys continue to be trapped on the island, Jackââ¬â¢s violent tendencies begin to emerge. ââ¬Å"He tried to convey the compulsion to track down and kill that was swallowing him upâ⬠(51). Without adults and the laws of civilization repressing it, Jackââ¬â¢s savage nature becomes apparent. Jack and Ralph eventually clash over their contradicting ideas of leadership. Ralph shouts ââ¬Å"Which is better, law and rescue, or hunting and breaking things up? â⬠(180). As the boysââ¬â¢ fears increase, and their hopes of being rescued diminish, they turn to Jack for leadership, and civilization is no longer able to coexist with savagery on the island. The conflict between Ralph and Jack provides a concrete perspective on the overall struggle between civility and savagery. There are multiple symbols in the novel that embody certain aspects of civiliz ation and savagery. Order and unity are epitomized by the conch shell. The shell originally had a powerful influence over the boys, but its power diminishes as the boys become increasingly barbaric, and it is eventually lost forever. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to existâ⬠(181).The shattering of the conch shell represents the loss of order on the island. Another important symbol is the face paint worn by Jack, and later the rest of his tribe, which helps draw out their savage nature. ââ¬Å"He capered toward Bill, and the mask was a thing on its own, behind which Jack hid, liberated from shame and self-consciousnessâ⬠(64). The mask created by the paint is a form of escapism for Jack; it allows him to free himself of the proper boy he once was in civilization, and let his barbaric impulses take control. One last important symbol is the signal fire, which serves as the boysââ¬â¢ only connection to the civilized world. Ralph s tates ââ¬Å"The fire is the most important thing on the island. How can we ever be rescued except by luck, if we donââ¬â¢t keep a fire going? â⬠(80). As the boys become increasingly savage, they forget the importance of the signal fire and rescue, which signifies their isolation from civilization. Throughout the novel, the use of symbolism is significant in representing the progression of civility and savagery. The internal conflict between civility and savagery presents itself in varying degrees within the characters. Roger is a complete savage, who enjoys inflicting pain on others, but his savagery is still partially contained by the rules of civilization. ââ¬Å"Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dare not throw. Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life. Round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law. Rogerââ¬â¢s arm was conditioned by a civilization that knew not hing of him and was in ruinsâ⬠(62).Although he has a true savage nature, Rogerââ¬â¢s barbaric instincts conflict with the laws of civilization that he was once so accustomed to living by. On the contrary, Simon is a naturally good character who is aware of the savageness existing inside the boys. In a hallucination, the Lord of the Flies says to him ââ¬Å"You knew, didnââ¬â¢t you? Iââ¬â¢m part of you? â⬠(143). Simon fears that he and the rest of the boys will eventually become corrupted by the evilness of manââ¬â¢s heart. When performing a ritual dance during a thunderstorm, Piggy and Ralph get caught up in the excitement of the other boys. Piggy and Ralph, under the threat of the sky, found themselves eager to take a place in this demented but partly secure society. They were glad to touch the brown backs of the fence that hemmed in the terror and made it governableâ⬠(152). Although Ralph and Piggy are the two characters who maintain their civility the m ost, even they possess savage emotions that can be awakened. The internal turmoil inside the characters proves that even when raised in civilization, savagery exists inside everyone.Throughout the entirety of the novel, civility and savagery are locked in a continuous struggle. They are represented in the conflict between the main protagonist and antagonist, embodied in significant symbols, and present in the internal battles of the characters. These two forces greatly effect the boys on the island, as they struggle between living with the morals they were raised with, or giving in to their savage impulses. As the boys return to civilization, they will forever be changed by the battle of civility and savagery that they now know exists

Macbeth Change in Personality - 765 Words
Macbeth is a very complex character. His personality changes drastically from the beginning of the play to the end of the play. Macbeth constantly declines in his level of morality until his death at the end of the play. His change of character from good to evil and Macbeth s attitude towards other characters, specifically Duncan, Banquo, Lady Macbeth is significantly affected. Macbeth interacts with Duncan only a minimal amount before Duncan s death; Macbeth s attitude towards him changes very rapidly. Before Macbeth hears the witches first prophecy, he is very close to Duncan, and would never even think of doing something against him. The killing of Banquo by Macbeth shows extreme selfishness; he cannot bear to see even his best friend s sons succeed him on the throne. However, a more important reason that Macbeth kills Banquo is because of Banquo s suspici on of him, and what Banquo will do to him once he finds out for sure that Macbeth has committed the murder of Duncan. One can see that Macbeth becomes extremely harsh if he wants his way. He will go to horrid extremes just so that he does not have to live his kingship in fear but instead in safety. Lady Macbeth interacts with Macbeth a considerable amount, and influences him greatly. He and his wife as a pair are dangerous because his ambition combined with her bloodiness can cause fatal situations. Why Homosexual Marriage Is Harmful And Must Be Opposed
The article I will be deconstructing is so pleasantly and simply titled, ââ¬Å"10 Reasons Why Homosexual ââ¬ËMarriageââ¬â¢ is Harmful and Must be Opposedâ⬠. Iââ¬â¢d like to preface my paper with this: It was posted and written by FTP Student Action, a fundamentally conservative student organization. Many of their statements are based on biblical teachings and beliefs. As such, many of the arguments presented are subjective and perceived validity will vary with oneââ¬â¢s religious standpoint. The primary claim is that homosexual marriage is morally, socially, and biologically wrong. Each supporting statement is separated into list format, so the connecting thread ended up being a bit disjointed. Collectively the argument appears deductive, though unsound. Itâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Given these two statements, it is concluded that a union of two of the same gender would not constitute a real marriage. This would be considered an appeal to tradition fallacy. Saying that something must be done a certain way because itââ¬â¢s always been done that way does not mean that it is the true or right thing to do. Next, they argue that homosexual relations are a violation of natural law. Itââ¬â¢s stated that marriage ââ¬Å"is a relationship rooted in human nature and thus governed by natural lawâ⬠. This would be engaging in an appeal to nature fallacy: a tactic in which it is proposed that a thing is good because it is natural , or bad because it is unnatural . It is also untrue. Marriage is an not an institution ingrained in natural law- it is a societal construct that has no empirical definition other than what society has decided it to be. It is then claimed that non-hetero families raise children ââ¬Å"deprived of either his natural mother or fatherâ⬠. They make the analogy that there are ââ¬Å"evident difficulties faced by the many children who are orphans or are raised by a single parent, a relative, or a foster parent.â⬠This could be considered a false analogy due to the fact that in most homosexual families there is not just one parent involved in raising the child. The writer uses these cases to conclude that ââ¬Å"same-sex ââ¬Ëmarriageââ¬â¢ ignores a childââ¬â¢s best interestsâ⬠,

Management Practice for Malaysiaan palm Oil Production
Question: Discuss about the Management Practice for Malaysiaan palm Oil Production. Answer: Introduction: The study of management has tremendously evolved in the recent times due to increased and continuous advancement in the field of technologies and dealing with a more sophisticated and educated workforce. Management study primarily focuses on the human resources involved in an organisation or business. The palm oil production in Malaysia has considerably increased over the years. According to a report, there has been 16.9 million tonnes of palm oil production in 2010. The Malaysian palm oil industry is easily able to satisfy the local demands for oil and fats, whereas the excess productions are being exported[1]. The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) is the supreme government agency that has been assigned with the responsibility of serving the industry of Malaysian palm oil. There primary focus is to develop and promote the countrys objectives, priorities and policies for the growth of the Malaysian palm oil industry. MPOB was established on 1st May, 2000 and was integrated by an Act of Parliament (ACT 582). It was formed by merging two existing agencies, Palm Oil Research Institute of Malaysia and the Palm Oil Registration and licensing Authority[2]. A Study on Management: Management of an organisation primarily depends on the managers who provide guidance and directions in a company, whether private and public and in businesses. Efficient managers are considered a valued resource in developed countries, whereas in developing countries they are the most needed resources[3]. Efficient managers are able to effectively co-ordinate and combine various resources available in a country, such as, human resource, capital and other natural resources. The management of an organisation helps in the economic development of a country by combining together the four factors of production, they are, people, money, machines and material. According to Peter Drucker, without an effective management the resources of a country can never be converted into product or services[4]. Definition of Manager and Their Skills: Managers can be defined as that individual who have the decision-making power and performs all the managerial functions. They represent only a small part of the total number of employees present in an organisation[5] . It is their responsibility to guide their subordinates and plan effective policies and procedures in order to fulfil organisational goal. According to Robert L.Kartz, effective management depends on three basic types of skills, they are[6] - Technical Skill refers to the managers expertise in the implementation of tools and procedures according to his area of specialisation. Human Skill it refers to the ability to motivate and communicate with people effectively. Here people include colleagues, subordinates, supervisors and other stakeholders. Conceptual Skill this refers to the managers mental ability to conceive plans and effectively execute and implement them in order to achieve organisational goals. MPOB - Planning: Planning is the top most function in the practice of management, which is followed by organising, leading and controlling. It refers to the process of setting targets and developing strategies and means to achieve those goals[7] . Plans must have the ability to change, therefore they must be flexible enough to adapt to changing situation without any undue cost. Since circumstances are changeable, hence a plan must be able to provide for as many contingencies as possible[8]. The Malaysian Palm Oil Board aims to become the supreme organisation by producing institutions for research and development and at the same time by providing impetus and leadership for the growth of a value added, highly varied, sustainable and universally competitive palm oil industry. They also aim for the prosperity of Malaysian Palm Oil industry through development, research and excellent services. In order to fulfil their goal, they have formulated strategies that focuses on the[9] - improvement and expansion of the current usage of palm oil product discover innovative uses for the product improving the production and quality of the product maximise utilisation of land in the areas cultivating palm trees promoting the utilization, consumption and salability of palm oil. In order to fulfil these strategies the MPOB has laid down ceratin effective policies that would in turn determine the countrys economic growth. These policies are[10] they adapted strong industry and market oriented development and research programmes they aggressively undertook commercialism and transfer of technologies to create an active partnership with public and private sectors for utilisation and growth of technology to strengthen their research collaboration and international connection to promote awareness on a global scale, demand and appreciation for Malaysian palm oil and products MPOB is funded primarily from the cess that has been imposed on the organisation for the production of palm oil and palm kernel oil. Moreover, the government also allocates budget to MPOB, to fund projects for developmental purpose and approved research projects under the Intensification of Research in Priority areas (IRPA) programme[11]. MPOB - The Organisational Structure: Organisations are made up of people who work and communicate within the system, individuals who share a common set of interest and values and work together in order to achieve their common objective or goal. Organisations are characterized by the members or employees of the organisation, their common goal or objectives and the structure they formulate to achieve those objectives. Organisational structure varies across different organisations. There are mainly five types of organisational structure, they are, line, line and staff, pure functional, line and functional staff, committee, task force and the matrix organisation. The MPOB follows the committee organisational structure. Committees bring together a group of individuals whose ideas provide solution to a specific or a number of problems[12]. Committee facilitates cooperation and coordination within an organisation and is thus becoming increasingly important. The success of the committee however ultimately depends on skillful leadership. The Board Members of MPOB comprises of a Chairman, representatives from the industry and the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities appoints government and the Director-General of MPOB. The Board plays a significant leadership role in providing guidance to the organisation. There are various committees serve the Board in the following areas[13] The Programme Advisory Committee comprises of reputed scientists and experts from the country and abroad. They give recommendations on research activities based on annual examination for the Boards consideration[14]. The Task of Organising: The task of organising mainly involves developing a structure or framework of roles for different individuals in an organisation. This means that all the task of an organisation that needs to be done in order to fulfill organisational goals must be assigned to appropriate people who have the required skills and are efficient enough perform those tasks successfully[15]. Detailing of Work - every organisation is established in order to achieve specific goals. This is considered the task of an organisation. The task of MPOB is to enhance the growth of Malaysian palm oil industry through development , research and excellent services. Division of Work - the work must be assigned carefully depending on the qualification and the skills possessed by the staff members. There must also be a fair distribution of work among its members. Departmentalisation - refers to the process of grouping or segmenting related activities, tasks and units of an organisation. Co-ordination of Work - refers to the process of unifying the diversified works of the staff members and at the same time maintaining a co-ordination between various departments, which would help in the fulfillment of organisational goals. Monitoring and Re-organizing Work - since organizing is a continuous process, therefore a manger must assess the organisational structure at regular intervals. It must be flexible so that effective and efficient operation can be attained. This task of organizing can be very well witnessed in the structure of MPOB. The management and administration of MPOB is the responsibility of the Director-General, supported by Deputy Director-General (Services) and Deputy Director-General (Research and Development). The activities of MPOB are also divided into eight divisions, which are headed by Directors[16]. Leadership: Leadership involves the process of effectively dealing with people and influencing them to achieve both individual and organisational goals. According to Richard L.Daft, the concept of leadership keeps evolving with the changing needs of the organisation. In an organisation, the leader focuses on setting the mission, vision and achieving organizational objectives and goals, where as managers focuses on efficiency and productivity. Leadership is a crucial factor of effective management system[17] . The performance of the management under the supervision of managers becomes more effective when it has the element of effective leadership added to it. The Board of MPOB plays a leading role in providing guidance and direction to the agency. The Mininster of Plantation Industries and Commodities appoint all the members of the Board, which comprises of the Chairman, representatives from the industry and the government and the Director-General of MPOB. Several committees serve the Board in various fields. Controlling: One of the most important functions of the organisation is the power to control. Controlling involves the process of assessing the variation between the set organizational standards and performance and the steps needed to be taken to in order to avoid such future variations. It is the process through which the management determines that the actual performance confirms to the planned performance. In order to help the managers, the control process employs various tools and techniques that have been developed over the years. One such controlling tool is the Budgetary Control, which is being adopted by the MPOB to measure the financial standing of the organisation. It monitors assets, actual expenditures, resources and others and compares them with the budget planned. In the case of MPOB, it is funded by the cess imposed on the organisation for the palm oil production. In addition to this, the government also allocates budget in order to fund the organizations developmental project and approved research project under the Intensification of Research in Priority Areas (IRPA) programme. Conclusion: Thus, it can be concluded that the management of MPOB is very well planned and the policies and strategies formulated by the Board members effectively guides the management in the fulfillment of their organizational goal of globally competitive and sustainable palm oil industry. The fulfillment of this objective of MPOB would in turn help in the economic growth of the country. References: Hislop, Donald.Knowledge management in organizations: A critical introduction. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Persuasive Essay Example For Students
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Persuasive Essay Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg in Austria, the son of Leopold, Kapellmeister to the Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg. By the age of three he could play the piano, and he was composing by the time he was five; minuets from this period show remarkable understanding of form. Mozarts elder sister Maria Anna best known as Nannerl was also a gifted keyboard player, and in 1762 their father took the two prodigies on a short performing tour, of the courts at Vienna and Munich. Encouraged by their reception, they embarked the next year on a longer tour, including two weeks at Versailles, where the children enchanted Louis XV. In 1764 they arrived in London. Here Mozart wrote his first three symphonies, under the influence of Johann Christian Bach, youngest son of Johann Sebastian, who lived in the city. After their return to Salzburg there followed three trips to Italy between 1769 and 1773. In Rome Mozart heard a performance of Allegris Misere; the score of this work was closely guarded, but Mozart managed to transcribe the music almost perfectly from memory. We will write a custom essay on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Persuasive specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now On Mozarts first visit to Milan, his opera Mitridate, rÃÆ'à © di Ponto was successfully produced, followed on a subsequent visit by Lucia Silla. The latter showed signs of the rich, full orchestration that characterizes his later operas. A trip to Vienna in 1773 failed to produce the court appointment that both Mozart and his father wished for him, but did introduce Mozart to the influence of Haydn, whose Sturm und Drang string quartets Opus 20 had recently been published. The influence is clear in Mozarts six string quartets, K168-173, and in his Symphony in G minor, K183. Another trip in search of patronage ended less happily. Accompanied by his mother, Mozart left Salzburg in 1777, travelling through Mannheim to Paris. But in July 1778 his mother died. Nor was the trip a professional success: no longer able to pass for a prodigy, Mozarts reception there was muted and hopes of a job came nothing. Back in Salzburg Mozart worked for two years as a church organist for the new archbishop. His employer was less kindly disposed to the Mozart family than his predecessor had been, but the composer nonetheless produced some of his earliest masterpieces. The famous Sinfonia concertante for violin, violo and orchestra was written in 1780, and the following year Mozarts first great stage work, the opera Idomeneo, was produced in Munich, where Mozart also wrote his Serenade for 13 wind instruments, K361. On his return from Munich, however, the hostility brewing between him and the archbishop came to a head, and Mozart resigned. On delivering his resignation he was verbally abused and eventually, physically ejected from the archbishops residence. Without patronage, Mozart was forced to confront the perils of a freelance existence. Initially his efforts met with some success. He took up residence in Vienna and in 1782 his opera Die EntfÃÆ'à ¼hrung aus dem Serail The abdication from the Seraglio was produced in the city and rapturously received. The same year in Viennas St Stephens Cathedral Mozart married Constanze Weber. Soon afterwards he initiated a series of subscription concerts at which he performed his piano concertos and improvised at the keyboard. Most of Mozarts great piano concertos were written for these concerts, including those in C, K467, A, K488 and C minor, K491. In these concertos Mozart brought to the genre a unity and diversity it had not had before, combining bold symphonic richness with passages of subtle delicacy. In 1758 Mozart dedicated to Haydn the six string quartets that now bear Haydns name. Including in this group are the quartets known as the Hunt, which make use of hunting calls, and the Dissonance, which opens with an eerie succession of dissonant chords. .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 , .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 .postImageUrl , .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 , .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9:hover , .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9:visited , .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9:active { border:0!important; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9:active , .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9 .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uff2dd6198f7479bdcac92a27c24746b9:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Importance of Early Music Education EssayOverwhelmed by their quality, Haydn confessed to Leopold Mozart, Before God and as an honest man I tell you that your son is the greatest composer known to me either in person or by name. The pieces are matched in excellence in Mozarts chamber music output only by his String Quintets, outstanding among which are those in C, K515, G minor, K516 and D, K593. Also in 178 Mozart and Lorenzo da Ponte collaborated on the first of a series of operatic masterpieces. Le nozze di Figaro The Marriage of Figaro was begun that year and performed in 1786 to an enthusiastic audience in Vienna and even greater acclaim later in Prague. In 1787 PragueÃâà ´s National Theatre saw the premiere of Don Giovanni, a moralizing version of the Don Juan legend in which the licentious nobleman receives his comeuppance and descends into the fiery regions of hell. The third and last da Ponte opera was CosÃÆ'à fan tutte Women are all the same, commissioned by Emperor Joseph II and produced at Viennas Burgtheater in 1790. Its cynical treatment of the theme of sexual infidelity may have been responsible for its relative lack of success with the Viennese, who responded with such enthusiasm to the comedy of Figaro. Mozart wrote two more operas: the opera seria La clemenza di Tito The Mercy of Tito and Die ZauberflÃÆ'à ¶te The Magic Flute. The latter was commissioned by actor-manager Emanuel Schikaneder to his own libretto. Its plot, a fairy tale combined with strong Masonic elements Mozart was a devoted Freemason, is bizarre, but drew from Mozart some of his greatest music. When produced in 1791, two months before Mozarts death, the opera survived an initially cool reception and gradually won audiences over. The year 1788 saw the composition of Mozarts two finest symphonies. Symphony No. 40, in the tragic key of G minor, contrasts strikingly with the affirmatory Symphony No. 41 Jupiter. Neither helped alleviate his financial plight, however, which after 1789 became critical. An extensive concert tour of Europe failed to earn significant sums. A new emperor came to the Austrian throne but Mozart was unsuccessful in his bid to become Kapellmeister. He was deeply in debt when in July 1791 he received an anonymous commission to write a Requiem. The author of the commission was in fact Count Franz von Walsegg, who wished to pass off the work as his own. Mozart did not live to finish the Requiem. He became ill in autumn 1791 and died on December 5; his burial the next day was attended only by a gravedigger. Rumours that Mozart had been poisoned abounded in Vienna after his death, many suggesting that rival composer Antonio Salieri was responsible. Many now believe a heart weakened by bouts of rheumatic fever caused his death. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria in January of 1756. By the age of four, he had exhibited such extraordinary powers of musical memory and ear-sophistication that his father, Leopold a highly esteemed violinist and composer in his own right decided to sign young Wolfgang up for harpsichord lessons. At five, he was composing music; at six, he was a keyboard virtuoso, so much so that Leopold took Wolfgang and his sister Maria Anna on a performance tour of Munich and Vienna. From that time on, young Mozart was constantly performing and writing music. Wherever he appeared, people gaped in awe at his divine gifts. By his early teens, he had mastered the piano, violin and harpsichord, and was writing keyboard pieces, oratorios, symphonies and operas. His first major opera, Mitridate, was performed in Milan in 1770 to such unqualified raves that critics compared him to Handel. At fifteen, Mozart was installed as the concertmaster in the orchestra of the Archbishop of Salzburg. Things did not go very well; Mozart didnt get along with the Archbishop, and relations deteriorated to the point where, in 1781, he quit this lofty position and headed for Vienna quite against his fathers wishes. .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 , .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 .postImageUrl , .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 , .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9:hover , .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9:visited , .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9:active { border:0!important; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9:active , .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9 .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ubf52b94b9eea3672a9ceca9039b66fc9:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Influence of Music on Human Beings EssayIt has been told that Mozart once said, Since I could not have one sister, I married the other. Whether or not this quote is true, the facts remain the same. Three and a half years after a young musician named Aloysia Weber refused Mozarts marriage proposal, he married her younger sister Constanze, on August 4, 1782. What sort of person was Constanze Weber? Mozart, who nicknamed his bride Stanzerl, described her this way, She is not ugly, but at the same time, far from beautiful. Her entire beauty consists of two little black eyes and a nice figure. She isnt witty, but has enough common sense to make her a good wife and mother . She understands housekeeping and has the kindest heart in the world. I love her and she loves me. . Constanze Mozarts life was far from easy. From June 1783 to July 1791, she bore six children. The Mozarts first child, Raimund Leopold, died at the age of two months of an intestinal cramp while his parents were away on a visit to Salzburg. Their third, Johann Thomas Leopold, lived less than a month, their fourth, Theresia, six months, and their fifth, Anna Maria, only one hour. The Mozarts were left with only two surviving children, whom Wolfgang barely had time to know. When he died, the eldest was seven years old, and the younger only six months. After Mozarts death, Constanze met and evetually married Nikolaus von Nissen, an official in the Danish Embassy, and it was he who raised Mozarts sons. von Nissen died in 1826, and Constanze in 1842. The two boys led fairly uneventful lives. The elder, Karl Thomas b. 1784, ended up as a minor official on the staff of the viceroy of Naples in Milan. He died in 1858. The younger, Franz Xaver Wolfgang, inherited his fathers musical inclinations, if not all of his talent. He composed and conducted extensively throught Europe, but perhaps the last word on this Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart the Younger was best spoken by George Bernard Shaw in a letter he wrote in 1897. Do you remember the obscurity of Mozarts son? An amiable man, a clever musician, an excellent player, but hopelessly extinguished by his fathers reputation. How could any man do what was expected from Mozarts son? Not Mozart himself even. Wolfgang and his father, Leopold had never regained the closeness they had shared in earlier days, but they reached a peace with each other, and maintained a steady corresponence. Leopold died in Salzburg on May 28, 1787, at the age of 67. Wolfgang had news of his fathers illness in April, at which time Constanze was ailing as well. This turn of events left him greatly depressed, and his own health took a turn for the worse. His music from the preceding decade was only sporadically popular, and he eventually fell back on his teaching jobs and on the charity of friends to make ends meet. In 1788 he stopped performing in public, preferring to compose. Mozart may have died of a number of illnesses. The official diagnosis was miliary fever, but the truth is that the physicians who attended him were never quite sure what Mozart died of. He suffered from rheumatic pain, headaches, toothaches, skin eruptions, and lethargy. A common theory today is that Mozart died of uremia following chronic kidney disease. Another possibility is rheumatic fever. Regardless of the cause, Mozart became bedridden for the last two weeks of his life. He died at shortly after midnight on December 5th, 1791, aged thirty-five years, eleven months, and nine days. Mozarts legacy is incestimalbe. A master of every form in which he worked, he set standards of excellence that have inspired generations of composers.
